Tachograph basics for operators

The tachograph records driving time, breaks and rest. Operators must download, store and check the data.

What it records

A digital tachograph records driving, other work, breaks and rest against the driver's card, along with vehicle speed and distance.

Downloads

Storage

Keep downloaded data for at least a year, in a way that cannot be changed and that you can produce when asked.

Checking the data

Look for driving over the limits, missing rest, driving without a card and unexplained gaps. Talk to drivers about patterns, and keep a note of what you did.

Calibration

Tachographs must be calibrated at set intervals by an approved centre.

Relation to Kovi

Kovi does not analyse tachograph data. It keeps daily vehicle check records, which cover a different part of the compliance picture. Keep your tacho analysis tool and use Kovi for checks.
