When is it due
A new van normally needs its first MOT three years after it was first registered. After that it is annual. Vehicles over 3,500 kg gross weight have the annual test instead, covered in our annual test guide.
Common reasons for failure
- Lights not working or misaligned
- Worn or damaged tyres
- Worn brake pads, discs or fluid issues
- Suspension and steering components
- Windscreen damage in the driver's view
- Emissions
- Warning lights
MOT and daily checks
An MOT is a snapshot once a year. A daily check catches changes in between. A van that passes its MOT can have a bald tyre in a month.
Never miss it
Driving without a valid MOT can invalidate insurance and risks a fine. Add the MOT date in Kovi and get reminders by email.
