How to get drivers to do daily checks properly

Most drivers are not lazy. They skip checks because the check is slow, nobody reads it and reporting a defect gets them in trouble.

1. Make it quick

A check that takes twenty minutes will be ticked in two. Keep the list to what matters for that vehicle.

2. Make it easy to start

A QR code in the cab beats looking for a clipboard. No logins to forget.

3. Show that you read them

Reply to defects the same day. Tell the driver what was done. Drivers stop reporting when nothing happens.

4. Never punish an honest report

If reporting a defect leads to blame, defects stop being reported. Thank the driver.

5. Chase gently, and every day

Check who has not done it each morning and speak to them. Missed check alerts in Kovi tell you.

6. Be clear on why

Explain that checks protect the driver, other road users and the firm. A short briefing in the first week does more than a poster.
