The simple formula
Cost of a day off the road = lost income + cost of cover + wasted costs + admin.
- Lost income: what the vehicle would have earned or the work it would have done.
- Cover: hire vehicle or sub-contractor costs.
- Wasted costs: driver wages for a day with no work, parking, fixed costs.
- Admin: phone calls, rebooking, apologising.
A worked example (illustrative numbers)
A tipper that earns £450 a day, costs £120 a day to hire a replacement and has a £30 admin cost: roughly £150 to £480 a day depending on whether you can cover or not. Three roadside breakdowns in a year might cost over a thousand pounds before the repair bill.
What Kovi costs by comparison
£1 per vehicle per week, or £52 a year per vehicle. If it prevents one avoidable breakdown, it has paid for several vehicles' worth of years.
How early detection helps
- A fault found in the yard is a planned job. A fault found on the A74 is a recovery.
- Repeated minor defects point to bigger issues you can fix in the workshop.
- Records show which vehicles cost you most.
