Know where they are
Typical blind spots are directly in front below the windscreen line, along the nearside, and behind. Cyclists and pedestrians are the people most at risk.
Equipment checks every day
- All mirrors present, clean, undamaged and correctly adjusted.
- Cameras and monitors working and wiped clean.
- Windscreen and side windows clean, with nothing stuck on them that blocks the view.
- Sensors and warning devices tested where fitted.
- Side guards and warning stickers in place.
Driving habits
- Check mirrors constantly when turning left, and give cyclists space.
- Do not move off until you have checked all around.
- Take the time to get out and look when unsure.
Report issues
A dirty camera is not trivial, and a cracked mirror is a defect. See defect reporting with photos.
