Safety guide

AdBlue faults and limp mode

Modern diesels use AdBlue to meet emissions rules. Ignoring the warnings leads to reduced power and a vehicle that will not restart.

What it does

AdBlue is injected into the exhaust of many modern diesel engines to cut nitrogen oxide emissions. If it runs out or the system fails, the engine management will usually warn the driver and then reduce power or prevent a restart.

Daily checks

Cold weather

AdBlue can freeze in severe cold, although most vehicles have heating. If you see faults in winter, report them.

Never

Do not use emulators or defeat devices. They are illegal and can lead to prosecution.

Make the AdBlue level a tick item on your Kovi checklist.
