At the scene (driver)
- Stop safely and keep yourself and others out of danger.
- Call emergency services if anyone is hurt or there is danger.
- Do not admit fault. Exchange details as the law requires.
- Take photos: vehicles, damage, road, signs, weather, number plates.
- Note witnesses' details.
- Call the office as soon as it is safe.
What the office records
- Driver, vehicle, date, time and place
- What happened, in the driver's words
- Photos and any dashcam footage
- Injuries, damage and other parties
- Police or insurer references
- The last daily check for the vehicle, and any open defects
Why the check record matters
A time stamped, searchable check from that morning shows the vehicle was checked and what was found. It helps with insurers and, in serious cases, with showing you had a working system. See Kovi's history.
Learn from it
Review every incident and near miss. What would have prevented it? Change one thing each time.
